Daveyton Society for the Aged

NPO 001-946

This home is a community based organisation in Daveyton, Benoni and is home to 35 permanent residents as well as a number of outpatients.

The home is situated in a very low income area and in need of much assistance. In the past, they have attempted to be self-sufficient by planting a vegetable garden, but unfortunately due to the rodent problem in the area, this was unsuccessful.

The home has a walk-in fridge which is in need of repair and the kitchen lacks adequate catering equipment and basics, such as cups, plates, knives and forks etc.

As in many aged homes, the residents are very lonely and lack purpose in life, spending most of their day in a large hall watching television. They would greatly appreciate an economical form of heating (solar if possible) in the hall, to make the winter months more bearable. In addition we would like to provide a conservatory, where they can enjoy some winter sunshine.

We want to encourage the residents to get involved in arts and crafts programs, such as knitting for the orphans and creating some goods that could possibly be sold which will provide a small income and give them a sense of usefulness.
